“Our vineyard project started in 2010 while drinking an excellent Malbec in our home in Houston, Texas. As a native Argentinian, I am a red wine lover and decided to make a wine to honor the Andes Mountains' magnificence and the wonders of the Argentinian land. “

About Us

The Alvarez Mattiuzzi Vineyards is a Houston family-owned business. Ricardo and Gloria met in Houston in 1991, where they came to continue their careers in the medical field. A native Argentinian and passionate wine lover, Ricardo Alvarez started this family project with his wife, Gloria Mattiuzzi, in 2010 and has been producing wines since 2014.

The Alvarez Mattiuzzi Vineyard is located in Uco Valley, Mendoza State, the largest wine-producing region in Argentina.

REGIS wines are made with the highest quality of grapes cultivated and hand-picked in the coveted Uco Valley terroir.

The wines are currently distributed in select locations in the United States exclusively by the owners.

The vineyard

The Alvarez Mattiuzzi Vineyard is located in Uco Valley, at the Andes Mountains' foothills, 2800 feet above sea level.

Uco Valley is considered one of the principal wine regions in Argentina. It is a valley formed by the frontal Andes Mountains range and the Huayquerías region. Mendoza is the largest wine-producing region in Argentina, with a desert-like landscape where vineyards are irrigated by snowmelt from the mountains.

Winter is rigorous, and summer days can be warm with cold nights. These weather conditions favor an excellent production of color and tannins in the grapes, guaranteeing superior raw materials for great wines.

The region is worldwide known for red grapes, standing out the varieties Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, and Bonarda, among others. Among the white varietals, the most recognized are: Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Semillón, Pedro Giménez, Torrontés Riojano, and Viognier.

Viticulture Practice

We practice evidence-based principles of Viticulture. Our region corresponds to Region I in the Winkler and Amerine System: icy winters and hot summers.

Our team is responsible for highly dedicated canopy management and precision drip irrigation. The harvest is manual picking and only selected branches.

Wine Style

Our wines are barrel-aged and barrel fermented in first-use French oak barrels,  and we use co-fermentation for our blends.

We use extended maceration with grape seeds and skin to increase the wine's color, flavor, and tannin structure.

REGIS wines are characterized by deep-purple color, full-bodied, and well-balanced characteristics: generous round tannins, vibrant acidity, and persistent finish.
